I'm with BT, have no problems, and unlimited downloads.
Before you listen to any of the providers claims, loose, check what speed you can get. BT checked my phone line and because I haven't got cable, so no matter who provides my broadband, they can't make it any faster!
We've recently changed to ICUK, about 5 months ago and so far (touch wood) they're great. Had a lot of problems with aol, which had got so slow I couldn't even watch a video on youtube without it continually stopping. They aren't charging any more than aol were, but they are more costly than a lot of providers. Not sure about your requirement for unlimited downloads, but it might be worth you checking them out?
I've got BT Broadband, had it from the start, odd hiccup but generally very pleased with it.

No problems with Talk Talk AND it,s free !!
We had this problem with sky broadband. Installing and using google chrome instead of IE and reconfiguring the wifi connection sorted it out.
I have had no problems with Sky, as Bushbaby said it could be a problem with your router. I got rid of the supplied router as they are usually cheap and nasty and use a belkin router, even with the whole family on the network we still have no problem with streaming things like iplayer. I have three kids who are all heavy users and do alot of online gaming on PS3 and XBOX
Got out of Talk Talk when they hiked my chargs and been with Plus Net with no snags and cheap
Sky rent there internet from BT but they dont buy enough bandwidth so as more and more people have joined sky broadband is less of it to go round and everyones getting less and less. especialy at peak times of the day. I do not recomend sky I had it for a year and after the first few months of joining then they start slowing you down.We have gone back to BT and we have no problem at all.
