dvd drive wont open

the dvd drive in my pc keeps refusing to open, i have to close down pc for a while, on restart it will function ok for a little while, then it wont open again, any ideas folks.

Uninstall it in Device Manager from Control Panel.
Reboot .. Windows will re-install it. See if that fixes it first.
Next would be to check the internal connections in case, then to suspect the drive itself.

done that doc, still wont open, keeps saying error occured.
tried that ALBags, it works for a little while the but then it refuses to open again.

I would say that is an almost bust drive then!
Easy to swap tho .. and cheap.

i have put a new drive in a couple of weeks ago, it worked fine for a few days then started to play up again, i have been told that it is a registry problem,
Had a similar problem some time ago with Vista, see here
