Is the film version of to kill a mockingbird almost as good as the book?

I cannot remember reading this book, as its been over 40 years since i read it, but the film seems complex with lots of small details, which i assume need lots of immagination to appreciate, so it wasnt only a racially motivated story.

How strange i was just looking up the film for something else!
The book is one of my all time favourites, and in my opinion yes the film is almost as good as the book, which is rare.It deals with all sorts of prejudice, not just racial.

Read the book again. well worth it.

this is the reason i asked about the book, cuz i only downloaded it last week.
dont think i´ve seen a film quite like it, it seemed as if the actors were given total freedom.

I've never liked the film, in spite of the book's being one of my all-time favourites, too. (I first read it at the age of 12 and have re-read it many times since.) It's a well-made film; I wouldn't want to put anybody off watching it. But I'm glad you're going to re-read the book as well; it's one of the half-dozen greatest 20th century novels, and a real page-turner, too!
