What kind of cable do I need to connect the laptop to the TV?

If your Laptop has HDMI use it for both sound and vision. You can get splitters and terminals if you do not have enough sockets at the TV.

If not use a VGA cable to connect that funny shaped socket with lots of prongs on for vision and a jack plug for the PC going to Phono/RCA pluc[gs for
vthe sound.

You can get all cable of different lengths off eBay far cheaper than the usual stores.
