1 across. Clue: Arab chief, he left one from the subcontinent (4). I have: S??H. It's probably SHAH but I can't see entirely why. A play on the sound of Ashah (Asia). Something "left" out often flummoxes me. Some kind person help me please.

Arab chief is a sheikh.
Take away "he" and you are lefy with Sikh = one from the subcontinent of India
