Just watching it on Dave, anyway, I quote Steve quoting his son:
"You can drive your 51 Chevvy for this life and the one you had before and still not create as much pollution as it took to make a Prius" - So are these hybrids helping?

work in Detroit, does he? Is he seriously saying making one small car produces more pollution than driving a big old gas-guzzler for 50 years or so? I'd need to see some proof of that before I'll swallow it.

I think some of the components of a hybrid take a lot of making.

so V8 M3 is more fuel efficient than a Prius!Awesome, I've got a V12!
Your saving the planet Geezer!
I'm so jealous.
If you're worried about the environment then just stick to your R1 - Geezer. I'm sure it's more economical than the V12 and more fun :o)
its true when you do a total life cycle analysis.....the metal extraction, the shipment, the processing of the metal, the shipment, the shaping of the metal, the shipment, the assemby etc, etc etc and finally the scrapping and recycling......and for metal you can substitute rubber, plastic, glass, and others......

The smae holds true for those micro wind towers that folk install on their offices and houses - not worth the space in terms of overall environmental life cycle analysis
No ! There just to pander to the green brigade.
did Chevys not require any of that, DT?
No.
And I won't take the bait with your deliberate use of the word NOT
I'm a grown up .....are you?
There's a lot of misinformation being pumped out from certain sources about the environmental effects of the mining in the production of the batteries.

Apparently the nickel is mined in Sudbury Ontario - there were some environmental nasties here that occurred in the 1970s which has now been largely regenerated

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Sudbury

However it is prime fodder for certain twisters of the truth
And yes if you drive a prius along a motorway non stop it won't get a chance to use it's batteries and will be much less efficient.

Let's see them drive the two cars across central London in the rush hour and see which uses more fuel then!

If you do nothing but long distance driving and buy a Prius you're as much of an idiot as if you buy an M3 for a daily 5 mile commute.

But not as much an idiot as if you take anything you hear on Top Gear at face value!
