We had a black Persian cat for over 9 years and she went missing nearly 5 weeks ago. She was found in a neighbourhood just a 5 minute walk away, but doesn't want to come back she is hanging out with some feral cats and is being fed nicely by the neighbours there. We have been over there a few times to try and get her back but she doesn't seem to want us. After looking after her for 9½ years surely she hasn't forgotten us already.

Would anyone have any ideas how we get her back? She doesn't seem to respond well to food as she is not hungry enough. It's a strange problem to have.

Have you tried just picking her up and bundling her into a travel cage? It is what I would do without hesitation if it were my cat.

We have been over there a few times with her carrier but we can't get near enough to nab her. She keeps running into peoples gardens where we can't follow
Is she not microchipped? This happened to a cat of mine, although it didnt help that some people wanted to keep him and kept him in ! He was not chipped at the time, but I had to get the police involved to get him back as this couple thought he was a stray ! He did have id collar on though which had come off...why do other people think they can just 'feed and keep' other people's cats..agreed some are strays out there..heartbreaking though. Try to tempt hiim with a freshly opened can of tuna if you can, then try and grab him and take him home where he belongs.
Failing this, try contacting the Cat's Protection, or your local Blue Cross, they may be able to help.
I was given a kitten when I was three. When I was eighteen, this cat decided to move in with a neighbour who was temting him with fresh fish, chicken, etc. He would occasionally strut back in to ours but would go back to the neighbours when the food was not up to his new level! The neighbours knocked on our door one day after about a year, and handed back my poor Whiskey who had lost weight and basically lost the plot - he was wandering aimlessly in circles. I had to take him to the vet to be pts and it was the worst thing I had ever done - the first animal I had ever had to take.
I could have punched their lights out for letting him get like that and not get vet treatment.
yes i had an elderlly female cat who upped and left me and went to live with the couple who lived behind me, they told me, and i received regular reports on her welfare till she died, dont know why she left.
I find it strange that a cat who has been with someone so long would just up and leave....my cat would never have gone to live with someone else, so i guess i can only go by my own experience. Do you have kids, a dog, something that might cause the cat to feel anxious?
You havent just got neew cat have you? When i brought a new kitten home my cat got the hump and would go off for abit and now has completely left home.
