Hi, I need some help. Had my last contraceptive injection in October last year, which is almost a year exactly and still I have not had a period. I'm so scared that my partner and I wont get to have the children we long for so badly. I just dont know what to do anymore, there isn't any sign of my period returning. I dont know if there is anything I could take to bring my periods back. If anyone has any advise, I'd love to hear from anyone who has had this trouble too.

Thanks Louy

Hi Louy

I spoke to the nurse at my practice about the injection and she said it can take twelve months for your periods to return to normal so if i wanted another child within the next 12 months to choose an alternative! Hope this puts your mind at rest. Ive just looked for a leaflet they gave me to see what it says on there but i cant find it unfortunately. Im sure that there is nothing wrong but i would check with your doctor/nurse if you are that concerned as worrying and stressing about it wont help you. You know what us women are like, any stress and our monthlys become erratic! Good Luck and hope everything goes well for you x

Sorry reading back i didnt word that very well! Nurse meant that if i wanted to try for another baby within the twelve months after the injection had stopped working that i should go for an alternative contraception. Sorry for any confusion x

I took the birth control injection depro vera for 5 years. I did not have a period for 3 years out of five. I had bad side effects. Headeaches, 30 pound weight gain etc..I quit taking the injections and got off birth control for 2 years. My periods came back in about 2 months after I quit taking the injection. After 2 years I got married and I now have a 15 month old child. I had no problem getting pregant ( one month after trying). So don't worry be happy about no periods but I did not like the injections because of the side effects.

Hi Louy83,

Sorry to hear about this. I have no advice to give but I would like to direct you to a website I think is excellent. Go to www.pregancyforum.co.uk , there's so many people to talk to and get advice from.

Good luck! x

hello louy,

I had the injection for 7 years and was advised to come off of the injection by my doctor as it can take anything up to 2 - 3 years for things to return to normal.  We plan to have a family and I have fertility problems and wanted to give myself the best chance possible of having a family.

If you are really worried go and see your doctor or the nurse at the family planning clinic.
