Big snow storms going accross the States by all accounts as well.

Again?...they had monster storms there only a few weeks ago.

Yes, Pasta. Lots of airports closed. They said the other day that they would be the worst storms in the US since 1999. I`m not sure how it`s panned out but the TV footage in some places is quite severe.

Well the word on the street from my colleagues in NY is that it hasn`t been as bad as has been expected (that was last night though). The storm came through from the mid west and was going to go through a huge area. You know what America is like though. They keep going regardless of the snow.

Pasta, I remember being in an out of town hotel in Detroit (I think). It snowed like hell that night. The next morning I went up to ToysRUs to get something for a friend of mine. I remember stepping off the pavement and going thigh-deep into snow. It was quite fun actually. Then I went down to the local out of town shopping mall.
And guess what? It was open, up and running at 10am in the morning. The US is so much better than us at coping in adverse weather.

Tambo-the worst of it has been in the Mid-west-around Chicago.

237SJ-snow is EXPECTED in the States-so they take it in their stride.

I called my dad in Chicago to see if he was OK (they got 20+ inches); then I called my brother in Detroit; He said the storm "pretty much missed them" as they "only" got 8 inches. My daughter in Boston was expecting 25 inches of snow. Areas west of St Louis (where I am) got 15+. Better snow than a cyclone, though!

My daughter's in Melbourne, so hopefully not affected. You don't realise how big Oz is until you see the distances between areas affected by that cyclone...500...900,...1500 kilometres...that's big.

Melbourne's not affected by cyclone but its 34 v.v.hot. My lot are posting beach parties.

Pasta, the good news is the groundhog didn't see his shadow, so an early spring is on the way.

Nobody here sees their shadow all winter. Come to that, they don't see a lot of groundhogs either. Not sure if this is a good omen or not.
