Naz you sneer at the '£300 will kit you out' proposition, and in common with many others don't take account of the fact that much of the kit is already available in many homes. If you look at the introduction to the book it is quite clearly laid out that you can spend a lot of money or less money on various items, best advice is to go for the best you can afford.

Henckel Professional S are my preferred knives at home but when I'm working on location I will work with cheap, cheerful and perfectly good Victorinox!
Laughing, not sneering.
Just done the beef hash and goddess salad - absolutely delish the whole family loved it - but it took me an hour - I reckon I could get it done in 45 minutes once I am used to to the recipe. Just Google his 30 minute meals and loads of the recipes are on the internet free ! (and my daughter has taken someof the leftover beef hash to mix with pasta for her lunch at work that is lovely too)
Got the book late last year but forgot I'd bought it.This weekend I'm going to try the Mustard Chicken,Dauphinoise and Spring Greens but will pass on the pudding. Pretty sure it'll take longer than 30 minutes though :) Will let you know!

I have the book (got ti for Christmas along with The Archers cookbook) and like all my cook books its gathering dust on the shelves
I agree with sprinter the the lay out is frustrating.

I don't want, or need, to get a meal on the table in 30 mins and prefer to get my prep done and then go and do something else before starting to cook.

Although I think this is his best book from a recipe perspective I do think he's shot himself in the foot with the 30 minute claim.
i bought this book a few weeks ago and have done two of the recipes, which both turned out absolutely superb. however, i bought the book purely for the recipes and not to do them in 30 minutes. i would say they take about an hour or more, if you're going to time yourself, but i'd rather just take my time and do them at my own pace, and wash up as i go along. wouldn't fancy being faced with the load of pans, food processors, dishes, etc which get used, when i've finished my meal!!
well worth getting the book, especially on-line somewhere cheap.
