Got an automated text message on my home phone earlier telling me that my BT Broadband was now active. I have not ordered this and don't want it - could someone (maliciously) have ordered it on my behalf? Thanks

More likely someone has got their mobile number slightly wrong when they ordered it.

Assuming you have broadband then nobody would be able to order another ADSL circuit on the same line.
I would phone up bt (independently, not using any special number left by the message) and query it with them direct.
trust me, bt don't do anything unless you ring them 5 times and then it's still sent by letter before it happens
Suspect it's either a mistake or some spam - give 'em a ring tomorrow - details from the BT Broadband website here
From a landline dial: 0800 800 150
From a mobile dial: 0330 123 4150*

Opening hours
Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm, Saturday 8am to 8pm, and Sunday 9am to 6pm
you should have a tracking number if it is a real order which means you can see whats going on straight away now on their online order tracking thing

Thank you everyone - didn't listen to the whole message as it was tea time so was a bit pre-occupied and don't know how to listen to it again. Will give them a ring tomorrow and see what's going on.
