hire car in new zealand

I am wanting to collect a car from auckland city and drop it off 6 days later in wellington... ideally Iwould like a convertible but non seem to do them, any ideas of ones people may have used. Thanks

Hire companies tend to steer clear of convertibles as they are a pain in the ass.

Also NZ is heavily dependent on Australia for its range of car imports and convertibles are rare in Oz because of the climate; it's either bucketing down or so hot the last thing you want is a convertible - the locals are glad of a roof and air con.

Mazda sports car out of Avis down there for 5 weeks and I took it over to the S Island - it was May June, though so out of season. Can't remember how much but it was a hell of a good deal.

Did exactly this back in early 2007. Booked it via our agent - AusTravel (We did NZ & Australia for 6 weeks). Picked up in Auckland city centre and spent a week driving South and left it at Wellington AIrport. It was a Hertz rental car.
