lucypom, rationing finally finished here in the UK in the mid-fifties, why would you want to send a cake 12,500 miles when we can buy them here.lol

We received similar items from the US through the post into the UK in the past so I rather imagine the answer is yes you are. The Australian post office should be able to confirm one way or the other.
You probably wouldn't have any problems but the 'official' line is here. (The page is mainly aimed at commercial importers but the same rules apply to personal imports):
http://www.gradeaclothing.com/gradeclothing.html

If you're still unsure, there's an e-mail address you can use on that page.

BTW: If the situation was reversed, the answer would definitely be 'no'. Australian customs officials are among the strictest in the world. I've still not forgiven them for confiscating a book I posted to a 12-year-old boy, just because I'd forgotten to attach a Customs Declaration Form! (However, the book was the 'England Cricket Annual' - the Ozzies probably treat that as an 'obscene publication' anyway!).

Oops! Wrong link! (That's the one for another question!).

Correct link (I hope!) here:

Sorry for the confusion!
