Hello
Our twin girls of 16 months get disturbed whenever we use our vacuum cleaner and they both start crying and really sobbing in distress, whether one cries because the other starts i am not sure. I suppose they will grow out pf this but would appreciate any advice
on this. They will play merrily until i switch it on even in another room.

My nephew used to have this problem. As soon as it was turned on he would cry and say "too noisy". One day at our house he looked behind the curtain in the bit where the hoover is kept and as soon as he saw it grabbed my leg and started crying like he was terrified. When I asked him what was the matter he just kept crying "hoo. Hoo". I thought it was really cute. Anyway,...

Is anyone with them when you vacuum? We found this with our 15 month old but if one of us sits with her and plays like nothing is happening, she is fine.

A lot of little ones are distressed by hoover noise - which, if you think about it, is perfectly logical.

Best to do your hoovering at night, or when they are out - they will grow out of it.
Strange - it was the noise of a vacuum cleaner that shut my child up! She used to cry cry cry, so I'd stick the vacuum on and she'd shut up almost instantly (I think it was because the noise was louder than any she could make, so stopped trying to compete).
My youngest used to get on and 'ride' the vacuum cleaner when I was using it!
Oh God! I've experienced both sides of this coin! My boy used to hate the "Hoover" which kind of rubbed off on his 3 years younger sister for a while, she is now fine and "HELPS OUT" with the hoovering at every possible opportunity! My Nephew however couldn't wait to get hold of a vacuum cleaner and even received one from Father Christmas at 2! Battle through, they'll soon find they can shout without worry at the noisy monster and it'll soon go away!
it's part of life!.......They have to get used to hearing the vacuum cleaner being used!...........sooner they do, tge better!.............none of us like it!......
my friend's daughter was found to have very sensitive hearing. when she started nursery, the other children were singing a song, all jumped up and clapped their hands, and she fell over with shock!

I'm not sure if they could check this out with a doctor at your twins' age, though.
