This is for all of you who get as frustrated as I do when radios play songs back to back and then don't announce the title or singer. If you have a mobile, just dial 2580 (right down the middle of the keys) and hold your phone to the speaker. The call costs 25p, and they will cut the call after about 20 seconds. You'll get a text message back about 10 seconds later telling you the artist and song title. I know not everyone has mobiles, or has a mobile ready at the crucial time, but I still thought I'd share this with you all.

Great to know, Thanks!

Do you think they'd know really old songs too?

....and I'm glad you shared this as well Lennon, this has to be one of the most annoying traits on radio - Thank you!

Glad you found it interesting. Erm, not sure about old songs, but my boyfriend tried it with a Will Smith song that has never been released and is a bit unknown, and it came up with it straight away, even the name of the girl who featured on it with Will Smith, so I reckon they've got a lot of songs on their database or whatever it is they're using - brilliant idea though I thought.

Sorry, me again. Go to www.shazam.com and it'll tell you all about it. They have a database of 1.6 million tracks so I'm guessing there's a lot of old one's on there as well. Hope this eases some frustration! :)
Does it work on any network?
Question Author
Yep, apparently it works on any network!
How does it work?
Thanks Lennon. I don't suppose I'll make use of it myself as I don't have or need a mobile phone and besides I'm a miserable old f**t, but there's gonna be thousands who will and this will be great for them. Thanks for sharing the info. This has got to be a perfect example of the purposes of this site.
Unless I've read the site wrongly Lennon, the cost is 50p and not 25p - so I will use this brilliant idea with great restraint - if I can!!
Works [most of the time] on all networks and cost 50p not 25
I used to love this but I can't use it now as I switched to Virgin Mobile PAYG, which doesn't let you dial short-form numbers. Bah!
