Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel/guest house/b&b on guernsey, suitable for a short break (we will have a car so location unimportant) in May?

A quick look at TripAdvisor, and eliminating the pricier places, suggests that you might like to consider the Wayside Cheer Hotel:

What do folk from Guernsey do in cold weather? They go and grab Jersey.
