Removal from someone elses car insurance
23 Answers
My daughter agreed to be added as a second driver to her now ex-boyfriends insurance so he could make a saving of about £300 a year. They split and she wants to remove herself from his insurance (he pays for it monthly as opposed to the one off yearly fee). He refuses to do it and wont give her his policy number so she can do it herself. She has contacted the insurer explaining the situation but they just keep telling her that they wont discuss the insurance with her as she is not the policy holder. How does she get round removing her name. The ex is as such now using her details with out her express permission.

i have a few ex boyfriends that i would sooner stick pins in my eyes than help them with anything ... why should she allow him to do this - just so as not to appear 'bitter'?
whatver the reason, i would not want my name on there either...you dont know how much of a twunt the ex might be and might want to be spiteful to her and set her up!
speeding tickets? other offences? even dress up as her for the photos - some people are weird, and vengeful an saying 'its unlikely' about someone you dont even know is naive.
the fact that he refuses to abide by her wishes shows hes hardly a reasonable bloke.
i undertsand him not wanting his premiums to go up...but its just tough sh1t...

I would have thought, in the event he has an accident and claims she was driving the insurance company would want to speak to her. Either they would have no way of contacting her so could not verify his claim or she could speak to them and advise she was nowhere near the car at the time so I doubt it would affect her.
Doc, sometimes if you add a driver to your policy who has a clean sheet in terms of driving history it can reduce the premium. We got a few refunds last year when we added a couple of drivers to our van policy.
