Another reaasurance needed! :)

Hello me again :)
So I posted last Wednesday about going to the doctors last Wednesday cos I found a wee lump on my breast..... Your replies did reassure me but after some constant googling today I'm in a panic again (I know I shouldn't google!!)
I'm still waiting on my referral for it (doctor said 2-3 weeks so not worried about that so much as it's only been 1 week) buuuuuut my questions is: is it quite normal to get referred?! I'm worried as the doctor was really not helpful and I have been to him before and he never shows any kind of emotion (as I guess most doctors don't) also see when I lie down I can't find the stupid lump (he didn't check me while lying down?!)
Sorry for asking another silly question but although today I was actually in a good mood it was just hanging about in the back of my head (arrrggh)
I keep thinking "oh it will be ok" then having a panic relapse!
I'm 31 and stressed out!! Xx

kitty, i've had about 20 breast lumps over the years, all have been treated as if they were suspect, each time i found one i was referred...and every time they turned out to be cysts. but i was told time and time again not to assume that any lump i found was a cyst, to go to the doctor every time, and each time i was referred to the breast clinic at the hospital.
i don't know what the figures are but you have an extremely high chance that it's nothing serious.....but if (big IF) it is, then the sooner it's dealt with the better. you are doing exactly the right thing... and i'm not going to say don't worry because i know you will until you get the 'all clear' :o)

I too have been referred and as Eth says, it is natural to worry and nothing we can say will stop you fretting. Just for a moment ask yourself if the GP had said 'Oh am sure it's nothing' and not referred you. would you still not be worrying? At least this way it can be checked properly, take care .
Thank you guys :) that has helped :) i just had a panic today that cos I had been referred it meant he had felt something terrible and wasn't saying to me (like I said in my other post I pretty much panic at getting a headache!)
Your replies are sooooo appreciated as like my friends you are so lovely :)
I think I overthink things sometimes which really doesn't help :) x

GPs don't have the facility to tell if a lump is harmless or not (albeit the vast majority are) so a referral is the most sensible course of action.
Think about it rationally, to check it out properly you need a scan and possibly a biopsy, neither of which the GP can do.
I know what it's like, I've been there a number of times, as I posted on your previous thread and all lumps were harmless fibrous adenomas.
Just a thought, is there any chance you could be pregnant? That could cause a change to the breast.

Thanks Jenna!
I had mentioned fibrous Andenoma to him ( I had done my google research beforehand!) and he didn't seem to think it was that, that made me panic more as I was convinced it was that
I have totally let my imagination run away with me though and have sat back tonight and tried to think rationally :)
I had thought about the pregnancy thing (stupid google again!) but my boyfriend and I are always very careful so I don't think so. Also my boobs are really sore as I know I'm due next week (had waited til after my last period to see if lump went away you see)
Arrrggh! Wish my brain had an off switch! :) x

It's absolutely normal to get referred - and if your GP was very worried, he would have asked for an urgent appointment. It's also quite normal to be worried by things like this! You can always ring the surgery next week and ask if they've heard anything, if you don't get a letter in the next few days.
I saw my GP a few years ago whe I found a lump. She said she was pretty sure it was nothing to worry about, but she referred me anyway. It turned out to be a cyst, but she did the right thing even though she didn't think it was anything serious. Even if it is (an as others have said the chances are it isn't) then the earlier it is caught the better. So either way your GP did the right thing.
