In the light of the dispute between Greece and the UK over the so-called Elgin Marbles, should the British Museum really be thinking of buying more classical artefacts? They're looking for funding to buy The Dog of Alcibiades, a Roman sculpture, from a private collector.

There is no dispute. It's like the Gibraltar question - We've got it, we're keeping it. They can lump it. Of course we should be buying more artefacts. If other countries want our ones, and can acquire them, all to the good. If Britain is good for anything, it's cultural imperialism. We should keep what we have, and let it go for what it's worth, not for less. The Elgin Marbles are worth more to us than they are willing to pay, so we ought to keep them.
