Can dry clean only polyester be hand washed in cold water? - I have a set of cream curatins that are really filthy, thanks to my cats! Label says Profesional Dry Clean only, they are 100% polyester, with 80% polyester 20% cotton linings, kind of a fake suede material. (that sound horrible written down but they're not that bad, honest!)
Alternatively can anyone recommend a dry cleaner in Cardiff? Took my sofa covers to Johnson's in Canton last year, and thay came back after a week looking worse :(
right think I'll risk it....they can't look any worse. They're quite big so a little shrinkage wouldn't be a problem. I think they can be ironed, but I'd have to buy an iron first!!
If one set goes horribly wrong I'll look up the dry cleaner you recomended for the other set Abi.
Funnily enough I have just machine washed a pair of similar curtains (they too are polyester and said dry clean on the label - i think it is to do with the linings shrinking away from the polyester fabric or vice versa) Anyway my machine does a very gentle wash (it's called handwash on the dial) so I tried them and they are absolutely fine!
I never ever dry clean anything that specify 'dry clean only', wash every time. But, I always launder in cold water with Woolite or any mild detergent. And only line dry, never put in the dryer. Everything always come out clean and perfect.
Another thing, use the 'gentle cycle' only on the washing machine for such jobs.
