News coverage of War
Was there this much coverage of Gulf War part 1? I dont remember anywhere like as much of it on the TV every 5 minutes and filling up half a daily newspaper. Also, how long was the first Gulf War?

Can't remember the newspaper coverage too much... although I do remember the start of the 'Air War' - my radio alarm woke me to the news of a Lee Chapman hat-trick for Leeds.... and by the way, we're bombing Iraq! I think this lasted for a couple of months before the 'Ground War' which only lasted about a week.
BBC Radio 4 split into normal schedule on long wave and waar coverage on FM..... it quickly became known as Scud FM and the perceived success of it lead directly to Radio Five being rebranded as Five Live and becoming more news-oriented.
[RANT]IMHO 5Live has suffered the most extreme case of Warcoverageitis this time round - anything is apparantly worth broadcasting if it's from or about the Gulf regardless of news value, content or judgement. They've really messed up. Lost the plot. No-one is sitting back, asessing or pointing out that listening to a disjointed press conference featuring videos is Not Good Radio. It reeks of boys' toys if you ask me. Which, in fairness, you didn't! [/RANT]

I was off work for a day last week and was unlucky enough to see the day time coverage of the Conflict. Now we all know day time TV is not the best but its much better than watching news people trying to fill 4 hours of live television with non stories about the allience taking basraa every few days. A 1 hour lunch time round up would be much more appropriate rather than constant uninteresting half reports.
