Hi - You posted that you're being moved on another thread - I put in a message to you, but don't know whether you would come back to it, so here it is again.

Most public sector employers will pay your extra travelling costs - our local council pay 40p per mile for 4 years - the health authority pay up to 3 years.

It's not statutory employment law, but well worth checking out.

This is only the case when the local authoritarians postulate a previously agreed rate of decomposition against the average local fuel costs this can be as much as twenty percent discount if inflation is factored in especially if unemployment tax is levied against the annual rate.

Ooee, just found this, thanks venator!

Yes - thank you - we will get excess travel but it's at a lesser rate that you mention, and some of us don't drive to get to work, we use public transport (or like me, walk at the moment 'cos it's so near). It looks therefore as if we will have to claim our bus or train travel which will be allowed to us at the mileage rate, to one location it could be we only get back about half the ticket price - and excess travel is taxable too, which reduces the overall reimbursement still further. However, I'm grateful to get something back rather than nothing - and indeed, more importantly, to still have a job! - but the additional cost of travel to work is going to make a potentially large hole in some of our weekly budgets.
PS thank you too, I have just found your original post - there is no suggestion that we are being made redundant, only that our employer is closing our current buildings so we have to move to another town. We're getting used to the idea now!
Many years ago the 'entitlement' was to the difference in season ticket costs if you used public transport and the 'public transport' (lower) rate of mileage if you didn't. Taxable as you say.

I suspect only the small print has changed

boxtops - I was just concerned that you might not know about the arrangement - my OH didn't - she's in a similar situation.

Mind you, she's lost out - she agreed to transfer to another health trust. The travel deal only applies if she transfers inside the same trust. So she's driving an extra 20 miles a day for nowt!
