Does any one know how many reusable plastic bags are used or brougt in a year? many thanks

According to some statistics that I read up on the usage of plastic bags, apparently 17.5 billion plastic bags are given out EVERY year by supermarkets. As you can imagine, that is a whole lot of plastic that is difficult to bio-degrade. And these figures are only for supermarkets. Plastic bags are used more extensively in other ways.

I tried to find the usage figures for reusable plastic bags but unfortunately could not find any. This might be because reusable plastic bags are not used that extensively although people are more aware of their benefits these days. Media URL: http://www.bagitdontbinit.com/
