Sorn fine, who's responsible?

If the tax ran out on a vehicle at the beginning of the month. That vehicle was then bought halfway through the month, who's responsibility would it be for the sorn fine? The previous owner as the tax ran out whilst he had it or the new owner for being stupid for not noticing it had not been sorned when he purchased it?

in that case, strictly speaking, both you and the previous owner have kept a car without it being sorned or taxed. them from jan 1st until they sold it and you from when you bought it until you taxed it.

As I said, even if the previous owner had SORN'd it then you should have done the same as soon as you purchased it.

The DVLA will come after you as you are now the registered keeper and you have kept a vehicle without it being taxed or SORN and telling them the previous owner hadn't SORN'd the car won't negate the fact that you didn't either.

Two years ago I updated the reg. documents on several vehicle that had been off the road for various periods up to 12 years. I have not received a fine for not having a SORN and I don't know anyone who has.

if not on a sorn it should be insured in future
