Does anyone know of hedging suitable for windy coastal areas

I am looking for something slow growing but wind tolerant.The area is mostly shaded.

We're a mile inland, north facing garden, we have a species of Pyracantha as our back hedge. It's about 7 foot high now, deters intruders, and the birds love the berries. http://www.hedgingpla...ts/pyracantha-hedging
