Fast growing evergreen shrub - tall for privacy
6 Answers
I am looking for a fast growing tall (past fence height) evergreen shrub preferably one that flowers. Problem I have is it is for a small narrow garden so need the height but not the width. This is for privacy from both neighbours and also a main road any suggestions

Common Laurel .. Can/will get woody and bushy tho.
Mahonia not tall enough.
Clemaitis Armandii ... Thin and leggy but evergreen and scented flowers .. Needs training tho. You will need more than one, expensive!
Clipped Holly .. Variegated version. Bit slow to start tho.

I'm sitting here looking at a 6' Pyrcanthus from my side window - very dark and dense right now, blackbirds have stripped the berries and a 6' clipped variegated privet between our front window and the pubic footpath. I prefer the privet, gives a light feel, not completely dense, but private enough tho. Will occasionally loose all leaves late winter.
Sorry to be a pedant but it's a "pyracantha"
For evergreen, you've got to be looking at some of the laurels or even a griselinia litoralis. Pyracantha would be ok but if you want a fairly fast growing shrub that can be clipped and looks stunning, plus is an evergreen, try one of the Ceonothus...."pugets blue" is a stunner
