Death in Venice

When I watched "Death in Venice" the other day, I got the distinct impression that some of it was dubbed (e.g. when an Italian was talking in English with an accent) but that some of it was clearly not (e.g. when Dirk Bogarde was talking).  Was it partially dubbed?  If so, why?  It is listed on imdb according to its Italian title.  Was there an original version of the film which had more Italian dialogue which was later dubbed.  Also, the boy (Tadzio) was speaking Polish and French, even though the actor (Bj�rn Andresen) is Swedish.  Was his dialogue dubbed as well?  I have checked with google and imdb but they don't give enough information on the matter.  The credits on the film itself are incomplete.

i haven't seen the film, but i was once told that many italian films are filmed without sound equipment and then add the dialogue later in a studio as it's cheaper that way. Don't know if it's true.
