Derek and the Dominoes
zz top?
Chicago (Transit Authority)?
Oh, British - didn't spot that...
Fleetwood Mac?
Question Author
nope
I thought about Fleetwood Mac, but they had a number 1 single (and 2 number 2s) in 1969 as well as 3 Top 10 albums before 1970, so it couldn't be them...
Cream?
Cream had no line-up changes, and had already split up before 1970...
Strawbs?
Bros.
The forum that this question was lifted from:

black sabbath
My suggestion would be Status Quo
