having checked my compost heap i have found thousands upon thousands of white thin , like tape worms. what are they, and what purpose do they serve?

It's the worms which are decomposing everything down into compost. You can buy these worms in gardening centres to do that job.
I have red worms in mine.

No, they are different. I have red only, hundreds of 'em. They are good stuff.

thank you all for your input, i checked them today and the have gone, underground i think
Mine come and go - sometimes they are all round the lid of the bin, other times they are buried in the stuff.
