help ! can anybody help me figure out how to get our new ps2 to work ? all the leads are in the appropriate slots and it has been tuned into the tv... it also shows the browser/config screen although there is a disc inserted..there is no sign that the disc  (game) is being read by the ps2 what am i doing wrong?? please help

Either the disk is damaged/dirty/wet/sticky or there is condensation on the laser lens. DVD players dont like fluctuations in temperatues - it should work after leaving it on for an hour or two.
