Didn't put a stop to murders in the past why would it stop them now.
Question Author
because it might be a deterent for the future....
I doubt it would make a difference,as the murders you are thinking about are not pre-meditated. Instead-they most likely happen in a moment of passion. And I don't mean the good kind-but rather anger, blind panic, jealousy...whatever....but a moment where emotion takes over.

i agree pasta but surely it seems like that poor girl has gone to a nightclub got a taxi home [thinking that she would be safe] and something has happened between her and the driver and he has killed her,not pre-meditatated but he still murdered her [allegedly]..if the thought that he would be killed himself by lethal injection or hanging do you not think that he would have thought twice before even thinking about his actions?
it doesn't stop murders in America where they have the death penalty.

we're far too civilised for that kind of thing.
Hi stokey, how are you and the "little lady" ?
This question is a real minefield in law. Before 1983 I believed that the punishment should fit the crime,i.e.Capital if warranted.
However, that year I was called for jury service, which I have now done on 3 occasions.
Having seen how meticulous and thorough the proceedings in court are,I feel that any case, can only be judged on its merits. To take a life by finding a defendant guilty should never again be allowed to rely only upon the verdict of 12 good men/women and true. This is why the law will never be repealed.
Capital punishment doesn't work as a deterrent for at least a couple of reasons. Lots of murders are committed in the heat of the moment and lots of criminals are very stupid.
I share your sentiments on capital punishment stoke but unfortunately for many reasons do not see it happening.

hi dfg...what a great reply to my question...the ''little lady'' is smashing thank you..she is 7 months old now and is the apple...no diamond of my eye lol...thanks so much for asking about her.you always have done and that is so nice of you,,,
The police have not been quite successful in getting their man lately, (Mr Yeats? the man who had had to move from his flat because he was wrongly exposed as the killer of a young woman recently.) They would have to be very certain instead of coming up with someone to jiggle the crime figures.
So glad to hear that stokey.Does,nt time fly !
Kind regards dg
Question Author
yes it does dfg she will soon be asking me for money lol.....
She will twist you round her little finger stoke. And you will be glad of it.

I believe that no-one has a right to take another's life from them, that applies to wars too, but I also see that man, as a species will never change and that there will always be murders, pre-meditated or not. However, there should be far less chance of a mistake being made by the police now that we have DNA testing, so I think that in certain cases - for example serial killers - capital punishment should return.
