Google toolbar disappeared???

I used to have the Google toolbar/search box at the top of my internet pages but it's now gone.
How do I get it back?

I have gone to View...Toolbars...& Google toolbar has not got a tick next to it, but when I click on it, nothing happens.

What else can I do? Basic instructions would be gratefully accepted!!
