Rust on trees?

Is what looks like rust on trees caused by them taking up water that has run off from old working mines? if not what has caused it?

different ones i think, they are in the royal forest of dean which i know has lots of old tin, coal, iron ore mines even a gold mine

it looks like rust and its not on the leaves itson the truck of the tree, ans i posted more than once so more people would see it
