I have some files of size 0 bytes, and when I try to delete them I get the message: Cannot delete file: Cannot read from source file or disk.
Any ideas as to how to get around this problem please?

Think of it like throwing away a chapter out of a book but leaving the index intact. There's still a reference to what used to be there but the actual information no longer exists).
It won't do any harm to leave the (imaginary) files alone but you could try moving them into a folder and then deleting that folder.
