Monitor malfunction
4 Answers
My Compaq FS740 monitor has decided it's not going to play anymore. I've had it for 3 years now. All it does is flash its little green on/off light at me and show me its black screen. I can't turn it off, as such, unless it's via the power supply on the wall. All the connections are in place as far as I'm aware. Has it died on me? FYI, I run Windows XP. And I am a computer dunce, so answers in baby talk please! Thank you!

I've had it for 4 years when the green light starting flashing and would not stop, and the screen stays black, as it were off. It still supplies power to the speakers and mic, but it is as the screen it's self is not getting any power. I am useing a different monitor with the same PC and it is working fine. The Compaq monitor had no signs prior to the time that it quit working that it was going bad. I had just used it earlier that day and it was fine..... no flickering or fading or anything like that. I took the back off and seen a couple of IC chips. I looked them up on the internet and one of them is the monitor controll unit (nt6861b-00071). My guess is that could have been what went bad. I am going to try to find that chip and replace it.
Thanks Agent WD40. It WAS the monitor after all. I took the whole lot into the local computer shop, and they tested the computer and found there was no problem. They wouldn't look at the monitor though. They said that, basically, it was a TV, and the voltage was too high for them to work with, so it would have to go to a TV repair shop. Now, knowing they charge an arm and a leg just to talk to them, I cut my losses and got a nice new monitor!! Hope you manage to get yours sorted!
