hi, does anyone have any ideas for a can crudher that im building for my dons school project. Please, hes asked me to build one and i dont no what to do. Cheers
We had one which was wall mounted and had two platforms. You put the can in between the two and pulled the lever down which was attached to the top platform and squeezed them together with the can crushed as a consequence. The lever arm slid down on the wall mounted part and pulled top platform down towards the lower one. You then lifted it up again to take out the squashed can and insert another one. It was not very robust and although the makers replaced it, it broke again so we gave up. A simpler idea might be to hinge two peices of hardwood together and then cut circular grooves in each one (like the cupholder in a car) and carve a handle at each end and press them together rather like bellows. Cans are very soft these days and will crush easily. All a bit vague I know but I hope it helps.
Stand on two legs, place can by side of right foot, lift right foot, place right foot over can, lower right foot to can, straighten right leg. Think about the muscles and joints involved, efforts, loads, fulcrums and levers and you've got a can crusher.
