My entire family have had a cough/cold for about 3 weeks now. I cough up phlem (sorry spelling) but cant bear to spit it out so dont know what colour it is and now I can feel my chest wheezing as I'm breathing. My OH, toddler and 6 yr old are all exactly the same too. Oh and the kids I childmind for are as well though one of them has been given antibiotics. Is there any point in going to the GP or will this just go on its own as its more than likely viral?

Hi tigwig.
I would suggest, you spit into a tissue and definitely check the colour. The colour could
show if you might have a chest infection. If so visit your GP for advice.
took 6 weeks for my daughters to finally go after a virus. Mine is just drying up now and thats been about the same.
Unless there are any infections its pretty pointless seeing GP, they just tell you to ride it out
I agree with redcrx.......if you feel well, no temperature and eating well, then there is little point in seeing a doctor....even if your sputum IS coloured.

Monitor thr situation over the next 7-10days.
It wasn't the cough that carried him off, 'twas the coffin they carried him of in
I had a cold and the after effects have been dragging on for weeks and now have another head cold which has just come out, am hoping it might shift the whole thing and I can get back to normal then. Seems a lot of people are suffering at the moment with coughs and colds which are lingering.

I always try and make sure if it's coughed up it's gotten out else if just keeps me coughing more.

Right after coughing last night for about 15 mins non stop so much it hurt my throat and made me cry lol I made appointments for us all this afternoon. I have a chest infection and dont think the kids particularly had any infection as such but as they couldnt get rid off the green snot and coughing for 4 weeks we are all on antibiotics!
