we make it with our pre-schoolers:
wash a jam jar very very well - preferably in the dishwasher. Then pour in some whipping cream and a sterilised marble. Add a pinch of salt and shake!
and shake and shake and shake and shake!
we pass it around, and everyone has a chance of feeling it as liquid, then, just when you think you can't shake anymore - bam! it seperates into delicious butter and the liquidy bit (whey?)
hen the children spread this onto bread they have also made themselves, you should hear the yumm yumm noises!

Put 1 part cream and 2 parts water into a blender/liquidiser and keep "blending" for as long as it takes for the solids to float to the surface. You will need to keep switching the blender off after a few seconds so as not to burn out the motor. The whole processs should take no longer than ten minutes.
