In the phone book we have, you can only look for people by their last name, BUT I know the road that someone lives in and roughly their last name.

Without looking through every person with that or a similar name (there'll be a lot) is there a way of finding their number?

Have you tried 192.com website. You can try names and then look at the addressed. Just put surname and town first and it shows you the options. Some people are free and shown, others you have to pay for.
is it not a case of BT numbers only in a phone book ? i've really no idea. it would be listed under the phone bill payers name if they're listed in the directory???
Mollie use 192.com to get number - dialing 192 will cost money

Bobbi how long is a while?
a while, I just haven't seen you around Tony..
you can fill in info on line in 192 , I have doen it before, as long as they are not Ex d You get quite a lot of info
Jack 192.com will find address's and people living there - if you want full details then you have to pay - test it on someone you know
not always Tony, I was asked to find an address and it was there, all depends on if the reciepient is ex directory, I am not there because I am, ex D

They are ex-directory. The boy has a double barrelled name so I looked under that and there was only one but that wasn't them, but the two parts of his last name are made up of two very common surnames so even if I trawled through all the entries it might be that there's more than one Smith for example, in that road. But on 192.com it turns out they are all called that double barrelled name but ex-directory so it won't give me their number unless I pay.
Question Author
postdog, i don't know what number it is and it's a long road.
If you go to the BT site here
http://www.bt.co.uk/
You can search on residential or business names by area. The results give full name and address info. for non ex directory subscribers.

MJ thanks for trying but i searched and nothing came up but a message saying no results were found check you spelt it correctly, this person may be es-directory.
are you sure you have right address?
Question Author
The road yes, but I don't know the number . . .
Bobbi - now molly is saying its a double barrel name - up and over or side by side - we will wait and see
Question Author
I thought i said that before.

It's amde up of two common names and i couldn't find him in the phonebook under both of them and thought there was a quicker way than looking to see if the person whose name it's in, jsut has one of those surnames. But looking on 192 it's the double barrell name but they're ex-directory.
Molls what info do you have i.e surname, house number, steet name, town
Question Author
Surname, road and town. But i see them today and it sounds as if they're ok now but it would be nice to ring them before tonight.
If they are ex-directory.......do you truly believe that you can find their telephone number *somehow* ...?

That's the entire point about being ex-directory......only people you tell directly have your number.
Jack thought molly was looking for someone she did'nt / could'nt get in touch with - there are ways on net you can do it - but at least she see them today so no panic
