Disneyland/Legoland

As our boys are getting grown up (11 and 10 this summer) we have decided to throw caution to the wind and to arrange a family trip/experience while they are still children. The years just seem to be flying away and I guess we dont have too many years left to do these things with them. We are not feeling particularly flush at the moment (who is?!) but we could afford to spend about £1k with a bit of careful saving.

The main two options we have are Disneyland Paris for 3 days or legoland in Denmark where we could get 5 days for roughly the same price.

They are not really nuts about big rides and i guess are too old really for disney characters so I am wonderig if we have maybe missed the boat for that. They do love lego, but maybe there wouldn't be enough to keep them occupied there.

I have asked them if there is anywhere that they would really like to go without propting and I guess they keep their ambitions small! One wanted to go to the local car track to watch motorbike racing, the other mentioned the safari park (we live near it and they go about twice a year!)

Does anyone have a view on what would be a better experience?

I would go with Legoland.............you can get 5 days there as opposed to 3 at Disney Paris, think they would get more stimulation at Legoland too!............hope you all enjoy whichever you choose to do!.......

Aww pinki - i've got a wee tear in my eye too. My eldest has had a rough time with bullying over the last couple of years and took it quite badly (he is now being tested for high functioning aspergers) in all that time though he never refused to go to school and still behaved very well and worked hard. out of the 4 boys that were bullying him, that's 3 of them now left the school for various reasons and the one that's left was more a hanger on than an instigator so hopefully it's onwards and upwards and he'll get any support that he needs now. Youngest is a bit of a yap, but is doing really well in school too. They never cause me any bother and parents night at school is a joy. Now if only they'd keep their bedrooms tidy!!!!!!!

Annie, my daughter went to Disneyland in Paris in January. She's 14 and she had an absolute ball. She stayed at the Cheyenne and it was 3 days she was there for. She did the whole Eurostar thing after getting the coach down (but it was a school trip so they kept themselves amused during the long journey). She's not a fan of Disney btw, and up till then she wasn't a fan of big scary rides either - she is now:) Your boys'll love it x

Our family kids all love Flamingoland in North Yorkshire.

There's a theme park, zoo and night-time entertainment. They've been going every year for the last 10 years or so.

welsh - opinion seemed to be that Legoland was a good day out but couldn't fill 5 days and October is very wet in Denmark. We'll maybe make it to legoland some time.

Thanks Karen - it's the Cheyenne we've booked too. glad your daughter enjoyed it - can you imagine being on that coach though with a load of hormonal teenagers awake all night and high on sweets, fizzy juice and excitement! - don't know how the teachers cope.

I collected her at half 3 in the morning - they'd been on the road since 10am the previous day and they were still all high as kites. Mind you, the teacher in charge was even worse :)
