did you pay the tax? I think you've won £8 but not sure
Question Author
I dont think you pay tax anymore, cheers tho dotty.

I know you get a quarter of the odds, thats all i know.

Dave.
As the horse didn't win you lose £1 of the £2 you bet. The remaining £1 will net you a quarter of the odds, i.e. £1, so you win £1 plus the return of your £1 stake which equals £2, which is where you started in the first place. Bad news - you win nothing. Good news - you lose nothing.
awww Dave, never mind, when you have nowt, ya get nowt lad...LOL

Dave.
At a quarter of the odds you win £4.

Cheers Starrs,OH, So is it £2 or £4 ????, either way ive got SOME money back.

Hi Joy. x
If the race was a handicap with 16 or more runners you collect £4
in any other race with 8 or more runners you collect £3.60
in any other race with less than 8 runners you lose your £4 stake
If the odds are 4 - 1, then a quarter of the odds equate to 1 - 1, i.e. evens, so the £1 placed on the place bet nets you £1.

It was the 2.00 at Aintree and the horse was Sire De Grugy.

tnx everyone.

Dave.
I assumed that £2 each way meant £1 win and £1 place. However, if you bet £2 win and £2 place (£4 in total) then you win £2 plus £2 stake back which equals £4.
You will only get back what you staked. This has come from someone I know in the betting trade.

ty all.
2.00 Aintree 15 runners non handicap
you collect £3.60 (ie you lost 40p)
put a very small each way bet on Silver By Nature in tomorrow's National - good luck - HW
Question Author
tnx harry, ive already put £2 e/w on niche market.

Dave.
if the working out of the odds is so complex, how come those who frequent the bookies day in day out can't get a job? They obviously have some skills even if it is only knowing how much they might have won
