Boomer the Budgie

Hi, i am new to this so please forgive me if i say or do something wrong.

I have a budgie called Boomer and i have had him in my bedroom for 2 months now. When i try to get him out of his cage he panics and when he eventually comes out i feel i have frightend him to come out :( But he soon goes into his cage again in his own time as he has figured how to get in and out on his own, i do try avoid doing any grabbing or anything physical if i want to get him into his cage, i normally just wait for him. The odd thing is as soon as he is in his cage he lets me stroke him fine... And lets me hold him too, but when i hold him he bites a big but then settles down. People say if i scare him while getting him out of his cage i will soon have to start all over again, anyone who can help me or give me some adive on how to sort this probolem out please help me because i want my bird to trust me not freek out when i walk in. Help please

Just leave the cage door open and let him wander out of his own accord, or maybe put a perch from the back of the cage right out through the door so its not such a commitment to come out. He can wander in and out without leaving his perch.

Poodulum, You need to realise how big you look to a tiny budgie. It will eventually come to trust you. As it now goes back to its own cage you must try to resist the temptation to actually hold it. No bird in the world likes to be held so that it can't open its wings to escape. You will soon find that it may jump on your shoulder or arm, but always let the bird have free will.

You say you can stroke it in the cage so gently tap and push its feet with your finger. After a few times it may climb on your finger by itself. After a few times of that gently 'carry' it out of the cage in that manner.

It took months for me to gain the trust of my darling budgie, but doing what has been said, leaving the door open when you are there did help and eventually he trusted me to go near him and him to fly over to me. Just give him time...treat him kindly, show him love and he will respond and you will love his company and he yours. Just one tip, close the cage door when you go out....was told years ago that if (god forbid) there was a fire or accident, at least when the bird is in the cage the cage can be taken out quickly, but not so if you have to try and catch the little angel.
