The Elgins was a popular name for R&B groups in the US during the 50's and 60's, with at least 5 bands recording under the name. One of those groups that later had more success when they adopted another name was the Temptations.
Haggisdj - The Temptations were formed out of two groups, the Primes and the Distants (I think) - who joined together. The first name they took was the Elgins, which they soon changed to the Temptations.
