Weedkiller

I need to completely clear my front garden of all shrubs, plants and weeds so I can then pave it over. What can I use that will effectively kill all the vegetation and remain in the soil for some time? All the weedkiller that they sell in shops are all spray types. I need something that perhaps to put in a watering can and drench everything in sight.
