At what age does entitlement to Incapacity Benefit, or whatever it's called now, stop?

If the age when someone receives their pension has gone up does the entitlement to IB continue?

My OH - Benefits Officer 10 years ago - said that Disability Living Allowance is not part of the pension set up and as such would continue after retirement age. Its regarded as a help to get you around and as such does not have anything to do with pensions.

but DLA is not Incap..

I think that Incap would be paid as Income Support after a long period of time, and becomes means tested, so would depend on yours/your partner's income/capital. at some stage Income Support becomes Pension Credits.

Pal of ours, well clued up, says it is when a person receives the old age pension. He says wo benefits cannot be paid

they can. you can get your State Pension and a War Pension, and Pension Credits.. not sure about any others, poss DLA.

I won't be eligible for means tested benefits. So when I hit retirement age my income is going to drop by almost £100 a week.
Does the change in benefits come about at age 65, or older now?

Incapacity Benefit is paid to someone who is not able to work due to ill health. When that person reaches state retirement age, the benefit agency no longer needs to pay them incapacity as after state retirement is reached a person can choose to carry on working .but no longer is deemed incapable of work for benefit purposes, I gather.

Good lord - you live and learn, and I am learning all the time. I receive retirement pension, plus attendance allowance. Because I claimed after retirement I was not able to claim anything else. Mobility allowance would have been useful - seems when you could do with it because you are no longer mobile they won't let you have it. There are two kinds of attendance allowance you can get, one for day time only and one if you require help during the night as well. I get just the first one, It pays for facilities I receive in the home as I can no longer go out (unless someone takes me). However, I am very grateful for what I get.

Couldnt agree more Starbuckone. We are in the same position although because I am under retirement age (my husband is 10years older than me) I get carers allowance for him. This will stop when I get to pension age seems that if you receive a pension you have to do the caring for free but if you are under pension age you get paid for it! I'm not really complaining though because we could be a lot worse off and I am grateful that I receive it now as I cannot go to work as I would worry about how he was managing

I worked in the benefits system for 24 years and 33 days. For the last 7 years I have been on Incapacity Benefit.

The system is confusing for people who actually understand it so I have no idea how members of the public are supposed to know what is available.
