What's the white blossom that's appearing just now in the Hawthorne hedges around the farmers fields?
I don't think it's the Hawthorne.

I've a;ways known it as Mayflower
Question Author
If it's Mayflower, what tree would that be?
mayflower is another name for hawthorn
Question Author
Oh, but the leaves on the hedge with white blossom don't have the jagged look of the Hawthorne leaf.
It's blackthorn
Question Author
Just Googled Blackthorn and that seems to be what I've seen.
Thanks.
Definitely blackthorn and I think it's my favourite - it just lights up the countryside at this time of the year.
Probably blackthorn, but it could possible be crab apple, either way wait till autum, and pick the spoils!
It's blackthorn, it always comes out before the hawthorn/may flowers - it covers the heathland and the sides of the roads, it's lovely.
