Fair Ground rides
5 Answers
I have just come back from Hull Fair (europes largest traveling fair)
When on a certain ride that throws u upside down and spins you round like most rides i began to wonder how safe the guard was that was stopping me leaving the ride too soon, Then i thought what would I would do if the guard fail and i left my seat whilst in mid spin. I hav 2 options, hold on or fall
If i hold on i run very high risk of hitting surrounding features like lights and amps or other rides!
If i fall it obvious it will hurt
What do you lot think would be the safest option ?

But these incidents are probably less than plane crashes, in the end, 'you pays your money, and you take your chance'.

There are Government regulations on the safety of fairground rides. I remember inputting them all into a computer at work once, before the days of scanners. The one thing I do remember from them is that the rail on the waltzers is not a safety rail as the force of the ride keeps you in your seat. The rail is just there to hold on to if you wish and you can leave it up if you want.
no you cant leave up the bar on the waltzer. 1 - if you leave the bar up, it makes it harder for the man to push the car as the bar sticks out further then the car. and 2 - you are required by law to have the bar down. it is your choice to hold onto it or not. The bar is not locked when it is down, so therefore it is not safe. The reason it wont hold you in your seat even when holdin on to it is because you are not constantly spinning, and there is 1 part on the ride where you go down a dip, and if you go down forwards and you are holding on or not, you will always leave your seat, but most of the time you fall back into your seat again....The best option on a waltzer is to HOLD ON TO THE BACK OF THE CAR with your arms behind you crucifiction style.
The majority of the rides are safe as houses, even though the cars are only connected to the ride by pins. The people who put them together are trained on how the ride goes up, and down. It is also VERY EASY to put up the ride as it all unfolds from a lorry and gets pinned together. 9 out of 10 times someone is hurt is because of the persons own stupidity and carelessness.
