Although local elections ought to be about local issues, history shows that the party in government tends to lose out in local elections. Further, the effect is far more pronounced during times of recession and/or cutbacks..
History also shows that the minority party in a coalition tends to suffer most. So, although I'll be voting LibDem, I have to agree with the song bird above.
As far as I am concerned it will not be a reflection of the General Election. As a life long Tory to whom the very word socialism is anathema, I shall be vociferously supporting the Labour Party this time. This is to punish the lazy, fat-arsed Tory Mayor (one of the elected types) for failing to clear the roads and pavements during the big freeze last December/January, thus condemning me to virtually three weeks isolation housebound. Local issues demand local solutions. It gives me some comfort to think that her grandiose plans for fancy buildings at the expense of basic comforts for the electorate will come to nought should Labour win the 2 seats necessary to deprive her of any legitimate authority.
It is the electorate themselves who are going to take a pasting; the electorate are going to lose because of their apathy, apathy because of the action of Politian’s behaviour. The electorate are now marginalised and seem to be regarded as a secondary concern by elected officials.
Can I retract the words "lazy" and "fat-arsed" to describe the Tory Mayor in my previous post. They are unworthy and undignified. The remainder of the text is a true reflection of my thoughts.
Yeah buen IMO the lib dems are good but they're taking most the flack from the tories mistakes, but they can't help it if they're vastly outnumbered so can't win arguments in parliament. At least they got a compromise on proportional representation with the AV, that's if people vote for it . . .
