The only sure way to keep them going from year to year is to keep them growing in warm greenhouse all winter just like a house plant would. |
I am 50% lucky with overwintering such fuschias by cutting them down to the roots before the first frost comes, piling up a little mound of earth over the base of the plant and putting a large upturned flowerpot on top to protect them, with a brick or heavy stone on top to prevent the pot being blown away by the wind. Alternatively, put a square of black plastic bin-bag over the earth mound and anchor it with stones. In the spring the green shoots will sprout up again from the base of the plant.
