My friend Deb was raised solely by her mum(single parent) and the mum would never reveal who the father was. The mum died 10 years ago. Deb has one elderly auntie still alive. Earlier this week the auntie called Deb and told her it was on her conscience that Deb didn't know who her father was, and she wanted to put the record straight before she died. She gave Deb a name - it is one of the 1966 England football team.
I say she should let sleeping dogs lie, but the auntie is urging Deb to contact him.
Any thoughts?

Sqad - maybe you are your father's son then! xx
So, if she is 54 that would make her father around 74 or so. If she doesn't hurry up it will be too late and with DNA tests it could be proved or not as the case may be. I suppose that famous people might have several claims to paternity but in any case I know I would like to know for sure if it was true. My husband's mother died when he was two and he always regretted that he did not know her. I cannot imagine anyone not wanting to know their children, but I suppose there are some heartless people about.

I'll print off this thread for her to read.
The mention of Nobby Stiles will give her a laugh at least
and yes, I would do it through a 'professional' service to handle it earnestly and delicately.
Why is the auntie urging her to contact him - she's salved her conscience, she should butt out, interfering old cow.
That might be a little harsh Canary - the aunt was obviously a party to the secret and who knows what she has been through in over 50 years to tell her niece now?
It won't be Ian Callaghan, but it might be bites yer legs, he was a bastard
As I mentioned before, the Sally Army have a department set up for contacting people - they might be able to advise - you might want to show your friend this site, mrs.o http://www1.salvation...amilytracing/home.htm
Does your friend have Red hair?
theres a new programme on tv this week to help trace long lost relatives I bawled my eyes out but dont know any of them !
I hope its not Danny Blanchflower I used to live very near Spurs ground when younger and he was always "kerb crawling" !
Hardely Danny Blanchflower - he played for Northern Ireland (not England) and retired in 1964.
